Call to Action I started out as a victim. Five years ago, I was brutally raped by a Violent Sexual Predator. I am one of the lucky. I was able to find closure when my assailant was sentenced to 135 years to life, without possibility of parole. Today I am an empowered victor. God has blessed my life in many ways, primarily by giving me a voice to help empower other victims of crime — help them become victors too. I’ve been given the ability to bring comfort to those in need. I regularly speak about all aspects of the judicial process, law enforcement, and services available for victims of crime. Helping other future victors work through the judicial system and learn about services available to them, is just beginning of their eventual empowerment. The other aspect of empowerment is bringing comfort and confidence back into their lives. Victors gain comfort and confidence by learning about self-defense and safety techniques such as situation awareness and firearms training. In addition to speaking about our judicial system, I regularly speak on the importance of preserving one’s right to self-defense. I am now working with producers from Hard Focus Media LLC, on a fully-funded, 26-episode, television series that will focus on the total empowerment of survivors of crime. We are looking for 35 individuals who are willing to share their experiences in order to help others in the same situation.
The individuals selected for the program will also have the opportunity to continue their empowerment through personal safety and firearms training at Front Sight Firearms Training Institute (www.frontsight.com) near Las Vegas. All course fees and travel expenses will be paid. No previous experience or expertise is necessary to participate in this program. When participating, some may find it difficult to discuss their situations. However, discussing your experiences and learning personal safety techniques will help you become empowered. Your participation will expose others in similar situations to the opportunities available, showing them they are not alone. Speaking from experience, there is no better means of personal empowerment than knowing you are helping others. If you, or someone you know, would benefit from this opportunity, please email me at empowerment@notavictim.org. Send your name, phone number, and if possible, a brief description of your experience and I will call you to discuss the program. Rest assured that everything you share will be held in the strictest of confidence until you are selected and agree to participate in this program. Deborah Courtney |
